Designed For Living Mastectomy Boutique provides women who have had breast surgery with choices. Part of your recovery process involves renewing your physical appearance. At the Boutique we are committed to making that process as simple and enjoyable as possible. The breast prostheses available today are made with medical grade silicone that comes in many different shapes and sizes. Women are often pleased to find how lifelike the prosthesis appears. The Boutique is committed to providing the best fit possible with all of your post mastectomy needs, which will give you the comfort and confidence you deserve. Please feel free to bring someone along for extra support if needed.

Designed For Living Mastectomy Boutique provides private fittings to help with those special needs, such as, breast prostheses, mastectomy bras, speciality swimwear and accessories from leading manufacturers. Fittings are done in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere where privacy is the first and utmost concern. As a trained and certified fitter, we are registered with MSI, Nova Scotia Medical Services Insurance, and the Canadian Cancer Society and will be serving all of Atlantic Canada. The Boutique is dedicated to helping women who have had breast surgery live life to the fullest with the leading line of breast forms, lumpectomy products, mastectomy bras and speciality swimwear. We also offer wheelchair/disabled access by providing providing a one level (ground level) business that is a smoke and scent free environment.

When Can I Be Fitted?

Once you have had your stitches out and are comfortable with the pressure of a bra on your body, approximately 6-8 weeks post surgery; you are ready for a fitting. We will fit you with prosthesis, and a post mastectomy bra, which is very similar to a regular bra. The mastectomy bra has an extra pocket sewn into the cup to hold the prosthesis in place. There are many styles and colours to choose from and our focus is to provide the best fit possible. Other mastectomy products are also available one of which is speciality swimsuits and accessories.

What about the Cost?

Many women fear the cost of a fitting. Every woman who has a valid health card in the province of Nova Scotia is eligible for $150.00 coverage from MSI for one breast form every two years and the balance could be covered by your private insurance. In addition MSI could cover up to $300 for the breast prostheses if your gross family income is less than $30,000/year.

In addition many women may have additional coverage from under a health benefit plan from an employer. It is a good idea to check with your insurance provider to see exactly what coverage you have. The Boutique will help you fill out all the necessary paperwork for both MSI and private insurance. Silicone prostheses vary in cost with each leading manufacturer, as do the mastectomy bras and speciality swimwear. MSI covers the first $150.00 for breast prosthesis (every two years) and the balance could be covered by your private insurance. Professional fitters are available and it does not cost more to be fitted at a boutique.
